The much-anticipated AKRAPOVIC Super Test saw round three of the Paulo Duarte FIM EnduroGP World Championship get underway at the POLISPORT GP of Sweden, with GASGAS Factory Racing’s Andrea Verona proving fastest.
- POLISPORT GP of Sweden off to exciting start in Skövde
- Andrea Verona sets quickest time in AKRAPOVIC Super Test
- Passionate Swedish enduro fans enjoy the night’s racing
The eagerly awaited POLISPORT GP of Sweden saw hundreds of passionate Swedish enduro fans fill the Skövde Bandy arena to watch the AKRAPOVIC Super Test.
At the head of the EnduroGP class, all eyes were on the frontrunners to see who would set the fastest time of the night. As riders filtered through, it was clear the tight and technical course was proving difficult to master.
Motivated by his AKRAPOVIC Super Test win at round one, Rieju Factory Team’s Dominik Olszowy clocked a time that looked tough to beat. With rider after rider trying and failing to topple the Polish ace, only two remained to deny him a repeat win.
The duo of GASGAS Factory Racing’s Andrea Verona and KTM Factory Racing’s Josep Garcia took to the track with everything they had. Delivering an incredible performance, it was Verona who managed to edge out Olszowy and take a well-deserved overall win in Skövde.
With Olszowy pushed back to second, TM MOTO Boano Factory Enduro Team’s Zach Pichon squeezed into third, with Garcia placing 0.44 seconds adrift in fourth. Giving his home crowd plenty to cheer for, Triumph Factory Racing Enduro Team’s Mikael Persson completed the top five.
With 33 Junior class riders entered in the POLISPORT GP of Sweden, competition was fierce for the top spot in the AKRAPOVIC Super Test. An almost perfect ride by Matej Skuta (Beta) saw him set the quickest time in Skövde.
Thibault Giraudon (Sherco) clocked the second-quickest time, with Jaroslav Kalny (Sherco) third to make it a Czech Republic 1-3 on the night.
The Youth class saw Fantic Factory Racing Enduro Team Specia’s Pietro Scardina and Team KTM Pro Racing Sport’s Romain Dagna battle it out for the fastest time, with Scardina taking it by just 0.18 seconds. The pair were almost 1.5 seconds quicker than Ramon Godino (Beta) in third.
Andrea Verona (GASGAS): “It was super slippery in places tonight. But I had been training a lot on tight, slippery tracks to be ready with the 450 four-stroke, and it worked out for me! I’m super pleased to get my name on the trophy and now I can look forward to a big race tomorrow.”
