The Italiano Enduro (Italian Enduro Championship) is once more proving to be the perfect preseason training ground for top EnduroGP riders and teams where, three rounds in, there have been two different overall winners – Steve Holcombe (Rnd 1) and Wil Ruprecht (Rounds 2&3).
The 2021 Italiano Enduro season kicked off in Passirano with seven-time world champion Steve Holcombe (Beta) picking up where he left off in 2020, claiming the event win in front of his teammate Brad Freeman (Beta) and Enduro Junior World Champion Hamish McDonald (Sherco).
Following his round one win, the path back to racing in 2021 hasn’t gone too smoothy for Holcombe as he picked up a bug the week before the second and third rounds, forcing him to take some time off. Wil Ruprecht (TM) was hungry for a win after being close to the podium at the opening round and delivered some impressive form in Sicily, going on to secure the top spot on each of the two days of competition.
The Australian played his cards well and stormed the competition by clinching two first place results and taking the championship lead in the process. Ruprecht showed impressive form, making it clear that he’s ready, like Holcombe and Freeman, to be placed among the favourites for this year’s EnduroGP and E2 titles.
Matteo Cavallo posted two second place finishes in Sicily, ensuring the TM Boano Factory Team had a dream start of their season. Meanwhile, at rounds two and three the last overall podium spot was shared between Thomas Oldrati (Honda) and Lorenzo Macoritto (TM).
